Our Shireinu Chorus

Shireinu is Temple Sinai's own Jewish choral ensemble. Now in its fifth year it is under the direction of Catherine Walters and Joel Gluck. Shireinu, which means ‘our song,’ is a volunteer chorus of people who love to sing forthe sheer joy of it, and specializes in the presentation of Jewish choral music.

The chorus has branched out beyond doing “Sermons in Song” and other concerts for Sinai congregants. The group has performed for the RI Chapter of Hadassah, Epoch Assisted Living Residence on the Eastside, The Phyllis Siperstein Tamarisk Assisted Living Residence and Temple Shalom in Milford, MA. Shireinu has donated money from the honorariums received from these performances to Temple Sinai.

Shireinu explores a wide variety of Jewish music in Hebrew, Yiddish, and Ladino, including settings taken from Bible and liturgy, folklore, and modern Jewish life, and featuring composers from the Renaissance through contemporary times, all reflecting the many sources and streams of Jewish tradition and experience that illuminate our unique heritage. Performances by Shireinu also include an audience “sing-a-long” to add to the enjoyment of all.
The Mixed Voices of Shireinu
The chorus rehearses at the Temple, on Sundays during the school year, from 10-11:30 A.M. Its members consist of men and women, of varying ages, who love to sing and share their joy of singing with others. Please contact Catherine Walters, the director of Shireinu, at 401-419-7698 for information about joining the chorus or hiring the group for an event.
