OCTOBER 19, 2008 - Temple Sinai Walks to Make Strides Against Breast Cancer

A message from Deborah Gerstenblatt riblatt@cox.net.

Dear Temple Sinai Family,

This year I am participating in the American Cancer Society's Oct. 19 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Providence. Making Strides is a noncompetitive 3- to 6-mile walk that takes place in more than 120 cities across the country -- 19 of them here in New England. I really hope you'll walk with me. I have included a link to my team page which you can use to sign up. You also can sign up to walk as an individual, or even start your own team. Everyday, more and more women and men are being affected by this disease, and here is our chance to raise money for research, early detection programs, services to make life easier for breast cancer patients, and advocacy initiatives to help rid our country of disparities in health care.

We are confident the American Cancer Society will put the money we raise to good use. It has a proven record of identifying the best and most fruitful research ideas, and it is the only private funding source that can claim 40 Nobel laureates among its grant recipients, including 10 from New England. You might not realize this, but it has been involved in many of the major cancer research breakthroughs of the century: the Pap smear to detect cervical cancer, lumpectomy and radiation for treatment of breast cancer, mammography to screen for breast cancer, use of tamoxifen to reduce risk of second or first breast cancer, identification of smoking as a cause of lung cancer, discovery of genes for inherited breast and colon cancer, and much more.

So, please join us for this incredible day and remember, Hope Starts Here... With Us!
Thanks,

Deborah Gerstenblatt
